Goals:

This program was developed for oncology nurses to introduce the concept of tumor immunotherapy or immunomodulation as a form of treatment for cancer. The role of the dendritic cell in the immune system and strategies (both in vivo and ex vivo) to enhance dendritic cells will be discussed. This activity will enrich the oncology nurse’s contribution to quality health care by providing the nurse with advanced information about dendritic cells and their role in tumor immunotherapy.

Objectives:

  • Define tumor immunotherapy.
  • Identify four properties of dendritic cells.
  • List three clinical applications of DCs in tumor
